Small, but mighty may well be a good way to describe the folks at Mule Expedition Outfitters in Issaquah Washington. Only a couple years old this shop started as a retail space for “overlanding equipment” and quickly grew into a full service shop capable of installing everything they sell along with custom fabrication and electrical work for those clients wanting something simply not available elsewhere. Of course they also do gear and axle work as they recognize that nearly every vehicle they work on is heavier than stock and almost always runs larger tires making regearing with high quality Nitro parts a high priority for many of their builds.
Unusual these days Mule stocks an abundance of product in their showroom. Everything from fuel cans to rooftop tents can be found here with staff who actually have experience with the products and can answer questions as needed about the equipment on hand.
The shop is fully equipped and run by two of the owners, one an aerospace engineer by trade and the other a former racecar fabricator. Combined the skill set is pretty impressive and rarely is a challenge turned down. That includes the latest big build in the shop. A Hellcat Powered 707HP JK Brute. The powertrain was fitted by Dakota Customs and then the Jeep shipped otherwise stock to Mule for the rest of the build. An Evo Evolever suspension is going in to control a pair of DynaTrac axles front and rear (Pro Rock 60 up front, Pro Rock 80 rear) along with an Atlas T-case just for a start. When completed this Jeep should be a terror both on and off the road!
Solar panels and a custom interior were going into this Sprinter when we dropped by. The roof panels are on a gas strut hinged setup to allow better directional control and improved performance in the field and the whole setup will be digitally controlled to keep the batteries up at all times. It’s interesting to see early stages of an install like this as there are a lot of parts to make it all work as well as possible.
We enjoy visiting this shop when we can and recommend you stop in if you find yourself in the area. Further away check out their website http://www.DasMule.com for all their products including Nitro Gear and Axle components.
