Silver Valley Jeep Jamboree – Idaho

Wet, nasty and hard on equipment we recently attended the Silver Valley Jeep Jamboree in Wallace Idaho and found the event to be all of these things. Multiple tires gashed, broken axleshafts, winching and rock stacking were common. Silver Valley has one of the toughest trails known within Jeep Jamboree USA (behind only the famed Rubicon Trail) called  Grouse Gulch and it did not disappoint.

History is important in order to understand some of the trails used during this Jamboree. Wallace, Idaho holds the distinction of being the “Silver capital of the world” with more than 1.2 billion ounces of silver mined from the area. The result of all this earth moving is a landscape altered and some areas left barren from mine tailings. No fish and little vegetation exist in these areas and as a result they are open to limited trail riding in Jeeps. The rough rock and water combine to make for extremely challenging terrain at times with scenery that looks out of place for the normally wooded hills and valleys in the area. The town of Wallace itself is an historical landmark dating from the early 1900’s and an incredibly cool place to hold this small Jamboree.  Our team had an awesome time, made some new friends and very much want to attend next year as this Jamboree is absolutely a winner if you can make it.
